Jenny Davies (Town Deputy Mayor)

I am 74 years old and a widow. I moved to Burton Latimer from Luton three years ago following the death of my husband; I needed to be near to my sons and their families. This move has proved a happy one and I have felt very welcome in the town. As a town councillor I hope to be able to give something in return for this welcome.

In Luton I was a Liberal councillor from 1981 and was a founder member of the Liberal Democrats in 1988. In total I was a Luton councillor for 34 years, serving on County and Borough Councils as well as the local Area Committee. With my Liberal Democrat colleagues I was involved in many campaigns, most of them against unsuitable developments or the loss of green space. These campaigns led to a particular interest in planning matters – but I have always believed that the most important duty of a councillor is to do everything possible to support constituents who have problems or queries.

On a personal level I am disabled with arthritis, and often use a mobility scooter – which gives me a special interest in the state of the local pavements! I am an avid reader and am interested in astronomy, history and the Titanic.
