Councillors
Roger Knight (Town Deputy Mayor)
I have lived in Burton Latimer for a total of 13 years having returned twice after leaving for work related reasons. When living here in the 1970s, I narrowly failed to get elected to the Town and Borough Councils on two occasions and so I was delighted to be able to join the Council in May 2011.
I am an anglican priest and former teacher who has worked in different areas of Northamptonshire: Twywell, Naseby and surrounding villages, Corby, Irthlingborough and in our town for nine years - four of which as Rector before early retirement.
I have served as a Daventry District Councillor, Naseby Parish Councillor, member of East Northamptonshire Standards Board, member of Kettering Health Authority and a member of a local patients forum. I am a qualified football referee and have been a local football club chaplain and much involved in a local football club since 1992. I have been a School Governor in a variety of Primary and Secondary Schools since 1974. I am keen on football, cricket, walking and reading. I was born and brought up in Bournemouth and have a special fondness for the Lake District.
I remain committed to ensuring the “best for Burton” and all who live and work in the town. Having worked in and for the “big society” for many years I am willing to play a part in making this a reality in these days when community life has changed so much. I am an independent in terms of policy and practice who believes in strong leadership after full consultation with local people.
I have a wife, two children and four grandchildren. Six of us have lived happily in Burton Latimer and five of us still do.
